The New Mother in my Yard

I watched and watched and waited and waited. Mother goose sat patiently in her nest near the edge of the pond. I was so nervous and scared for her as the land just yards away from her nest was being clear cut for a new house. All the beautiful, old, oak trees taken away. Every last one.

She sat and protected her nest as the man who cleared all the trees cut the grass, with a large mower, within a few feet of her. Not caring that she was there. He left her more exposed to predators. Every morning I woke to see if she was still there, praying that she had been safe during the night.

But God shined light down on her and protected her. Now she, daddy and the wee one's are celebrating this Mother's Day as they take a Sunday stroll through my yard.

Even Mr. Turtle popped his head up from the water to say congratulations. A beautiful family that makes my heart smile so very big.

Wishing all of you a beautiful Mother's Day full of light and love. (Happy Mother's Day to you Mom, love you)

They are so beautiful! I can imagine how stressful it was waiting for her eggs to hatch with all the clearing go on around her. What a sweet little family!

What a strong parental unit - if not for a nest with expectant hatch, the activity and loss of natural protection, they would have moved on. I love happy endings.

Love the new little family! We have several Canadian geese in the lake behind our house, but I have not seen any nests or babies. Maybe I should look a little more closely.
Happy Sunday!

Hi Shell, what a sweet story! And what a pretty family you have as new neighbors. I am sorry to hear the ordeal she had to go through because of some mean human peoples. I hope you have a great week and get lots of time to create.

Hi Shell, Happy Mother's Day. I enjoyed your post and I have been watching some birds build their nest. I don't know my birds well enough to tell what kind they are, but it is fun. Why can't people leave some of the trees when they want to build a new home. I have worked very hard in the past to have our shade trees around our home. It helps with the electrical bills, plus it is enjoyable to set outside in the shade and enjoy the fresh air. You can tell you have struck a nerve there. ha. Have a wonderful day. I am off to the hospital to see our son. Your Missouri Friend.

Shell,

I remember you talking about this nest when I saw you earlier this month. This is the sweetest post and just so fitting for Mother's Day! You're the best!

So glad the Goose family is safe and sound. Love is all around, if you just pay attention and look for it. Thank you for being such a good mommie to all your bunnies. (and now the Goose family, which I guess would make you the Grandma!) :) Sending hugs.... karen

Much better neighbors than the clear-cutters.

What a lovely family!

Happy Mother's Day to one of the best bunny-moms out there--I hope Harrington gave a day free from dealing with poo-poo bucket parties!

Happy Mothers Day! So glad the geese family survived the mess.

I so hate it when they take all the trees down for new construction...... never looks the same.

HUGS!!!

Hi Shell,

What darling photographs of the sweet new family and so glad that made it against all the odds.
Sounds so frightening with the tree felling and then the lawn mower... yikes!
Hope that you are having a beautiful weekend dear friend.

Hugs
Carolyn

Oh, and I can't grab your new button. Well, I can grab what's there, but it doesn't work. Could you have M. Samm fix it please? Thanks!

I will never in all my life understand developers who clear cut land in order to "plant a house." Can you tell it is one of the things that irritate me a lot.

I love seeing the babies with their parents. Such a pieceful view you have from your yard. Lucky you. Hope your weekend was truly peaceful. Judy C

Ahh, such lovely geese with babies. They look like a very contented family even though there is a lot of disruption around them. I am very sorry to hear about the oak trees being chopped down! :-(

We have white geese living in the next door field with chickens. They tend to fight quite a bit with each other though. They are a bit scary and chase the local cats. ;-))

I hope you had a lovely mothers day. We celebrate it on a different day here in England.

I will email you later this week with a detailed sketch. The drawing is going well. ;-)
Have a lovely week my friend.

So glad the geese made it through. They are quite a beautiful family. As for the clear cutting, ugh! They did that to build a dozen new houses near me a couple years ago. So many familys were displaced, including some gorgeous foxes. I hope all goes well with the goslings.
